Have you audited your CEIAG provision lately?

Date: 28 September 2016

What, exactly, makes for outstanding CEIAG provision?

That’s the question we asked ourselves this time last year before embarking on a nationwide quest to find out. During the last 12 months we have worked with over 500 teachers and senior leaders to uncover the secrets to providing high-quality CEIAG in schools.

We’ve discovered that there are five key elements of great CEIAG, each of which comes with its own requirements and challenges. We have transformed these elements into our ‘Framework for Outstanding Employability Provision’:

  • Strategy - The planning required to deliver your provision, as well as the ways you will measure success.
  • Partners - The people and organisations that will support your programmes. This includes employers, experts and the local community.
  • Student activity - The in-class and extra-curricular activity that students will participate in to develop their work skills.
  • Work experience - The workplace experience your students participate in via placements, job shadowing and insight days.
  • Evaluation - The identification and collation of the progress your students have made and evidencing this to meet Ofsted judgments.

Using this framework, we have now gone on to develop the unique ‘Navigate Online Audit’ – a tool that is designed to support all schools to develop an outstanding CEIAG programme.

Why should schools audit CEIAG?

As we all know, CEIAG is an increasingly vital element of the education programme. Preparing our young people to survive and thrive in the workplace has risen up the agenda rapidly and Ofsted will be scrutinising provision more than ever meaning school leaders are expected to lead on the planning and delivery of careers, employability and work experience.

With all this in mind it’s crucial that every school can:

  • evidence its CEIAG strengths
  • recognise areas where development is required
  • know how to improve
  • create and implement a realistic action plan
  • track and monitor progress

The Navigate Online Audit tool enables you and your team to do all of this and more. Very quickly it supports you to build a thorough self-assessment of your provision and develop realistic action plans.

How can schools access the Navigate Online Audit?

Schools love our audit tool because it provides an easy and cost-effective way to identify the key WRL strengths and areas for development. It comes with dozens of built-in 'quick tips' which are designed to pinpoint exactly where improvement is required and how to make this happen.

And, best of all, schools can either complete the audit internally or invite a member of the Navigate team in to do it. The clear design of the tool enables us to deliver a full audit and create a realistic action plan in under a day!
